PhD Dissertation Discussion at the College of Education for Humanities

The College of Education for Humanities, Department of Geography, discussed on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, the doctoral dissertation submitted by the student Ziad Khalid Muhammad Al-Obaidi, entitled:

“Hydrological Analysis of the Wadi Abu Shakhma Basin in Kirkuk Governorate and the Possibility of Its Utilization.”

The dissertation presents an integrated hydrological analysis of the Wadi Abu Shakhma basin, which is characterized as a seasonal runoff basin located within arid and semi-arid environments. The study aims to diagnose surface runoff behavior, estimate available water resources, and assess the potential for their efficient utilization.

The research is grounded in a central problem represented by the spatial and temporal variability of rainfall, high evaporation rates, and the limited benefit derived from seasonal floodwaters. It also highlights the scarcity of applied hydrological studies in ungauged basins, which makes water resources management in such environments an increasingly complex scientific and planning challenge.

The discussion committee consisted of the following members:
