PhD Dissertation at the College of Education for Humanities Discusses the Effectiveness of an Educational Program Based on the Seven Habits of Stephen R. Covey in Improving Time Management and Reducing Emotional Sensitivity among Secondary School Students

A PhD dissertation was defended at the College of Education for Humanities, Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, at University of Tikrit on Thursday (April 30, 2026), by the student Zuhair Hassan Rattan Karawi. The dissertation was entitled:

“The Effectiveness of an Educational Program Based on the Seven Habits of Stephen R. Covey in Improving Time Management and Reducing Emotional Sensitivity among Secondary School Students.”

The study aimed to:

  1. Identify the level of time management among secondary school students.
  2. Examine emotional sensitivity among secondary school students.
  3. Determine the effectiveness of an educational program based on the Seven Habits of Stephen R. Covey in improving time management and reducing emotional sensitivity among secondary school students.

To achieve these objectives, the researcher developed two scales: one for time management and another for emotional sensitivity. Additionally, an educational program based on Covey’s Seven Habits was designed, consisting of (16) sessions. The program’s face validity was established through evaluation by a panel of experts and specialists.

The researcher adopted an experimental design with two groups (experimental and control) using pre- and post-tests. The sample consisted of (80) fifth-grade secondary students, divided equally into (40) students in the experimental group and (40) in the control group, selected purposively. Equivalence between the two groups was established based on variables including pre-test results and parents’ educational attainment. Statistical analysis was conducted using Chi-square, Pearson correlation coefficient, one-sample t-test, independent samples t-test, and paired samples t-test.

The examination committee consisted of the following faculty members:
